This is eseentailly an autobiography. Sabas Gaerlan was born during the Spanish occupation of the Philippines. He was a resident of the Ilocano region. He worked as a teacher and held several government functions. He was elected into office as well as mayor of Cervantes. One of his sons, Juan Gaerlan was a Philippine senator. Accordinglly, Don Sabas Gaerlan kept a journal which he religiously wrote until he was in his sixty's. His journal was so well organized that I have not really done anything to change the original form. I tweaked the English translation to accomodate the current taste of the young readers that's why it's imperative for those readers interested in Philippine hisotry to start the book from the Ilocano version and then to move to the English transalation and not the other way around.

About the Book
Casuratn ti Biagco is an autobiography of Don Sabas Gaerlan written during the period, 1860-1913. It was written in old Ilocano. The original manuscript needed deciphering and transcribing because it was written in elaborately calligraphic style and some of the Ilocano words he used are no longer used. The text therefore was painstakingly re-written and also translated into English although not all. The poems and reflections were not translated into English. Surprisingly, a lot of Philippine history that was interwoeven in his story telling had not been recorded previously and therefore the book as it is makes it a very interesting reading material.
About the Author
I am a descendant of Don Sabas Gaerlan, My grandmother on the paternal side, Margarita Antonia Guerrero Gaerlan was one his daughters. I got hold of Don Sabas Gaerlan manuscript in 1988 and since then I have worked on having it transcribed and finally had it a book form by 2009.
Currently I am a nurse by profession but this was not first profession. I was a chemical engineer, I was an environmental engineer, I was a teacher, I was a stay-at-home mom and now I'm an accidental author.
