Filled with optimism, Jane never dreamed that things would turn out like this, the rest of the day she was in heaven and walking in clouds. At first, she had a tough time figuring out her emotions and never understood why he never faded in her memory. It seems like it was just yesterday, and time stood still for her. She went back to her room, and napped for half an hour. However, her sister noticed the transformation of Jane’s behavior but avoided to be nosy. She has this inkling notion that it has something to do with Don. She knew the waiting was the longest time for Jane.
The following day of Don’s visit, Jane woke up rather early and started to get ready. Went out for her early jog, showered, and then, ate her breakfast.
She looks at things in a different perspective, she was happy for the first time. After breakfast, her sister cajoled; “Wow, what a difference can twenty-four hours’ make! You look ravishing! What’s up?” Jane ignored her sister, smiled and went to the study room. While waiting, she got her pocketbook, by Jane Austin’s ‘Pride and Prejudice, ‘and read while waiting patiently. After three hours, she glanced at the mantle’s clock. Noting the time designated for his overdue arrival. Yet, no Don showed up.
Jane felt humiliated and insulted. She did not know whether to cry or to be mad. Slowly, she went back to her room, locked the door, and tried to concentrate on reading until it was time for dinner. She skipped lunch and was not hungry. When called for dinner, she braced herself, pretended to put a happy face and went downstairs. When she showed up at the dining room, her sister was skeptical and did not know what to say. She knew that Don did not show up. Nevertheless, she respected her privacy. Jane is very secretive when it comes to her personal life. Sensing the change of her sister’s bubbly personality, she knew something went wrong but refused to inquire. Yet, it was so apparent that something is bugging Jane. However, she dare not solicit information.
Uneventful days passed and Jane resumed her involvement with the town’s activities. On the fifth day, the same messenger came back. This time Jane, still cordial, took his message with a grain of salt. Cold as she can be, she tried to be polite. “After all, this is not the guy’s fault. He is just a messenger.” Jane thought. Embarrassingly, the person told her that Don got married in a so-called ‘shotgun’ marriage. Not knowing what to say or do, she stared at the man in disbelief. She could feel her world collapsing and chills traveled down her spine. She was about to cry but refused to do it in front of the man. She excused herself, left the room, and went straight to her bedroom. She threw herself on the bed and started to cry bitterly, sobbing as if her heart would break. Her tears were for Don, the treacherous and lonely life he had chosen to lead. Also for her, who believed and trusted him for the promises given. Tears of regrets...

About the Author Jeanette Willkom Dunn, a.k.a. Jeanette Dunn Aragon, born in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. Retired RN, an administrator, educator, and innovator for a number of years. By the age of twelve, wrote her first poem. Graduated and conferred with BSN at the UST, Manila Philippines; Managements credential, UCLA; Master of Health Care Administration at L.V.U., CA; Health Care Credential at CSUN, CA.;.. At age twenty-four, appointed as the Director of Nursing Services, the youngest during her time, and held two hats as the Associate Executive Director. She won awards in recognition of her achievements in the profession. In 2003, she wrote her first poetry book, The Emotion of Life and Love Poetry Book, and in the year, Oct. 2008, the enduring novel Tears of the Heart. Ms. Dunn lives in Newport Beach, CA, a widow who has a son, Andre, married to Sirikit Tan, who is expecting a boy to be named Kai Onie, and a daughter, Marnie, married to Robert Moore with two lovable grandchildren, Jarri Owens and Isabella Laine.
