As I approached the table where my 40 rand bet was sitting she had her back to me and she was sitting with another girl. I moved round to the front of her and saw her face for the first time. I was in total shock, my God she was so ugly. Instead of a face that launched a thousand ships, she looked like she had been hit broadside by one. My first thought was sod the bet I'm out of here! Formats Book Details John's life started at the beginning of World War Two, when he was evacuated from London as a baby, to various homes in the South of England. Some were very good homes but others were a nightmare. I was a fire protection engineer for 38years and worked mostly in offices and faxctories in the London area. I retired in 2004. I am a first time author and thought it a good idea to put my life experiences down in a book. I now have plenty of time on my hands after working 7 days a week 50 weeks a year. I also like metal detecting but as yet haven't found that pot of gold.
