The Story of Bendalot Part Two

However after a few minutes they floated along still above the ground and the mist carried them quite fast. All of a sudden they were gently dropped to the ground. The mist lifted and there to their absolute amazement was a huge shiny object in a clearing. It was a funny shape. In fact it seemed like an enormous teapot with steam coming from its spout. It was this steam that had caused the mist since they could see it disappearing inside the spout.

The travellers stood with their mouths open. “what is it ? said Handi

. “ Looks like a teapot “said Sandi.

 “I know that silly”

 “But how can a teapot be that big and sitting here ?” Anyway I did not ask for any tea” said Rondolfin “ and certainly not that much tea ,anyway”

At that moment the lid of the teapot started to rise. As the mists cleared further the lid rose higher and higher but it did so all by itself and seemed to just float up into the air. Then from the hole in the middle a kind of platform emerged also rising by itself and on that platform were the strangest looking creatures the children and their friends had ever seen.  There were  five of these funny people/creatures. They were not very big . In fact they were about the size of Handi and Sandi. They wore silver suits which shimmered in the sun and at first sight it seemed that they had big bowls on their heads. As they looked more closely they could see that these bowls had windows in the front and back and inside the windows there were furry faces just like small bears. Each one had four ears ,two each side and what was amazing was that the front and the back of their heads looked the same. They had a face on the front and a face on the back. That meant they could see what was behind them and in front without looking round. 

Then from the platform came a great long slide which reached down to the ground and the five creatures each jumped on the slide and swished down to the ground. The stood looking at the group of travellers and of course Rombus the dragon and the flying pigs . It was pretty obvious that they were as nervous as our group was. For a while no one moved except for Rombus whose eyes kept changing colour and his nostrils twitched sending forth clouds of steam and some fire too. Handi was a bit worried that this would upset the strange creatures so finally summoning up all his courage and holding hands with the tall Tontoflor for support he began to approach them.  They walked very, very slowly and raised their hands in a sign of peace. When they were about 20 metres away they stopped and Handi said  “ please do no be afraid”  “ we are not going to hurt you but we want to know who you are and where do you come from ‘cos we have never in all our lives seen anything like the machine you came from except that it looks a bit like a teapot. “

Of course they had no idea if anyone would understand what they had said  but then one of the creatures stepped forward and said in perfect Bendalotian language. “We come also in peace from a star in the sky many, many light years away”
