About the Book
In 2006 my oldest daughter Indira Mandisa returned to our home in Cutler Bay, South Florida for a six months stay and brought her pet feline, Patience, along. Although I was not keen on the idea, I agreed (albeit) under considerable pressure. I was never a 'Cat Person' as such and, quite frankly, never imagined having one of those furry little buggers around … much less living with one. Although I was initially insistent that the Cat's stay was going to be a short term situation, Patience eventually grew on both my wife and I so much so that we became very fond of the little Feline. This is therefore not only a photo storyline about how Patience conned her way into our home, and eventually into our hearts, but also how having her around really changed my point-of-view about Cats.
About the Author
I got my first peek into the fascinating world of photography at around the age of twelve when I stumbled across an old copy of the celebrated National Geographic Magazine. To this day, I still have memories of being awestruck by the stunning photography as I flipped through the glossy pages of that popular magazine so highly respected for its exceptional photography. Although my passion for taking pictures was ignited at a very early age, almost three decades would have passed before I was able to seriously study this art form. Since that encounter with the National Geographic Magazine, and during the intervening period however, other interests dominated the course of my life. An abbreviated summary of my professional experiences during this period include almost twenty years in the Diplomatic Service of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. I was also an Alternate Representative of The Bahamas to the Organization States (OAS) in Washington DC., As Head of Mission of the Bahamas Consulate-General in Miami, I retired from The Service several years ago at the rank of Consul General. My professional past also includes several years’ involvement with both the print and electronic news media as a Journalist and, with regards to the latter, as News Editor & Anchor for both radio and television at the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas, Nassau. I am an alumnus of the Catholic University of America, Washington DC, and was the Bahamas-based Correspondent for United Press International (UPI) during the early 1980’s while in the employ of the Nassau Guardian as a Reporter. I also attended the University of Miami. Shortly before retirement from the Diplomatic Service, I began my formal education into the captivating world of photography first by studying with the New York Institute of Photography receiving a Diploma in Professional Photography. I also studied at the renowned Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale (A School of Professional Studies) and was awarded a Diploma in Applied Photography. Additionally, I have participated in more than twenty photography workshops throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Although my comfort zone has always been with Nature and Wildlife Photography, earlier in my career I was profoundly influenced by the photographic genius of Life Magazine's own Gordon Parks (November 30, 1912 – March 7, 2006), and by the eminent Landscape Photographer & Environmentalist Ansel Adams (Feb. 20 1902 — Apr. 22, 1984), to name a few, best known for his black and white photographs of the American West especially in Yosemite National Park. I am originally from the Islands of The Bahamas, but travel between Nassau, South Florida and Washington DC., with periodic visits to Salvador da Bahia one of Brazil’s most fascinating and historic cities.
