Different
That one is different
One plainly sees
It does not bear fruit
Like the other fertile trees.
Its bark is aged
Its leaves withered and dry
Its branches point towards the ground
No longer towards the sky.
What hardships it endured
One can not surely say
Though it suffered in the sun
For many a rainless day.
In its youth it was radiant
Wore a crest of fresh dew
Paid homage to the robins
With their vibrant hue.
Provided shelter for wanderers
On hot summer days
But now it is a danger,
And may be caught ablaze!
We must chop it down,
It does not serve a purpose
It can no longer benefit mankind,
Its life is but worthless.
Robins cannot seek shelter
In its leafless crest
And only a fool
Would dare stop by it to rest.
Time has already eroded
That once majestic bark
It is different than the others.
Time has set it apart.
And with his valiant axe in hand
The man made a mighty swing
But then silently put down his axe
Maybe being different isn’t a bad thing.

I’m Paige Dubin, an outspoken seventeen year old, and I would like to share my world of words with you. About the Author
The theme of my poetry that resonates beneath profound literary devices, sophisticated syntax, and delicate diction, is one of simple hope. Arduous ordeals and hardships that may appear insurmountable can often be conquered through optimism and perseverance. Poetry is like a transparent window through which I view my innermost ponderings, allowing me to profoundly reflect upon my personal struggles and reevaluate my morality and judgment.
I believe that every person should have the opportunity to grow through the power of words, regardless of their financial background, physical disability, or other personal hindrance. Thus, I am donating many of my books and a great deal of my profit to Save the Children, a non-profit organization that promotes the education of underprivileged, disabled, and minority children.
In addition to the proceeds benefiting disadvantaged children, my poetry evaluates societal problems and proffers guidance, striving to make a positive impact on society. Ranging from illegal immigration to substance dependency, my poetry topics address hard-hitting, current issues that are often viewed as controversial. Advocating, racial, gender, social, and economic equality, my poetry speaks fervently against racism, the subjugation of women, and social injustice.
