At precisely seven o’clock, Aoki was ushered into the Emperor’s quarters. Once again he was led to the sound proof room. Th e Emperor wasted no time in asking for Aoki’s proposed strategy. “Th ere are three locations which require our attention, Your Majesty. Th e most important is to fi nd Rob Campbell in Hawaii. He will be eliminated. But this will require some time. Ideally, his death should look like an accident” Th e Emperor nodded his agreement. “What do you propose if he is married with children?” he asked. “As you said this afternoon, Your Majesty, everyone must be eliminated. Foreigners sometimes leave valuable documents in safety deposit boxes in the names of their children. Th ese boxes are to be opened when the children reach twenty-one. We cannot take that chance, so all children will also be eliminated. As this is the most important area, I will take one of my men and attend to it. But if he is married with children, we may not have the opportunity or the time to make the deaths look like an accident. We may have to make it look like a burglary. One where he resisted and the burglars lost control and killed everyone.” Once again the Emperor nodded his agreement. “Th e second location is Malaysia. Th e late Lord Hino had instructed a submarine captain to execute a man named Jack Simpson at sea. Th e man fell overboard when our boat was attacked by an enemy plane. It was believed that Simpson was connected to plan Empire. Th e intelligence service sent a Chinese agent to determine if Simpson had indeed died. Th is agent reported no trace of Simpson and was subsequently killed in a fi ght over a prostitute. Th e matter was closed. I am not content with this loose end. I will send two men to thoroughly re-check everything.” “Th e fi fth member of my team will go to Brazil.” “Brazil?” echoed the Emperor. “Yes, Your Majesty. After his escape from Japan during the war, Lord Hino lived in Brazil. After the war he fl ew to Mexico and from there crossed into America. It was reported he had a young lady with him.” “Th at could have been Miss Kojima,” breathed the Emperor. “When you instructed Lord Hino to close down Empire, he ordered the death of the pilot who had fl own them from Brazil to Mexico. His name was Sato. But Sato’s family was left unharmed. Sato may have talked to his wife. If she is still alive she must be killed, along with any children. Th is should be an easy task as we do not have to be too careful in Brazil. When he has completed his task the fi fth man can join us in America, if we need him.” “Th at is an excellent plan, Aoki, Implement it immediately and send me regular reports.
