Flirting with the Truth

A Fed-Up Woman Similar to a woman scorned, excluding the violence, I became fed up after being in a relationship with a guy for over five years, who, in my opinion, was definitely marriage material, but he wasn’t ready to settle down and marry, so I thought. Although my boyfriend was not a bad person overall, in retrospect, I had made the wrong choice in my selection of a partner: I was ready to marry and he wasn’t. But for selfish reasons, I stayed in the relationship far too long. Unfortunately for me, it took a shock of reality and a devastating blow to my ego, to find the strength and courage to walk away, stay away, and to start a new life without him. “If it doesn’t fit, don’t force it,” is the phrase that comes to mind when I think back on our relationship. As difficult as it was for me to break away at that time, I had to force myself to stop calling him, and under no circumstances would I wait around for his phone calls, which I did early on in our relationship. Though his telephone calls to me were quite frequent when I initially left him, it was just a matter of time before they eventually stopped altogether.

Man’s Greatest Gift! A man can plant a seed, but he cannot make it grow, for I believe that it takes a woman to nurture and care for that seed in order for it to fully develop and mature. For this, I believe that man’s greatest gift is not his penis, but instead, it is life and then it is his woman. A woman is an adult female who may or may not possess physical characteristics of a female, as we think one should. But under normal circumstances, she can bear offspring or produce eggs that may become fertile through the seed of a man. Having said this, and considering that a woman’s reproductive organs are needed in order to produce offspring, my concern is, if put in the form of a question, Why do some men treat the mother of their children with less respect and dignity than they do their dogs? I’m trying to imagine, just for a moment, what the world would be like if every man would treat his woman as well as he treats his penis. Given this scenario, I believe the world as we know it would inevitably change, and this could possibly reshape and reform it into a euphoric haven, whereby, divorce, domestic violence, and crime, would be at its lowest, and perhaps the word “ego” would play no part in our relationships. Of course, this is wishful thinking.

Private Summers Isn’t it amazing how, when we were innocent little children, we found it necessary to discuss everything that we knew, and keep secrets about important things that really matter never crossed our undeveloped minds. We felt there was nothing to hide and that nothing was too private or too personal to share with others. Similar to a sponge, we’d absorb and mimic everything that we’d see and hear our parents, other family members, and friends do. However, as we mature into adults and experience life in our own unique way, we begin to withdraw and hold back: we become fearful of what people, family, and friends may or may not say about us. We develop our own ideas, personalities, and theories, and like children, we seek validation from others. In many cases, if it is not given, we alter our way of life and our way of thinking. As a result, we become rebellious, insecure, and sometimes withdrawn, for we lack self-confidence. Yet, we try to maintain a genuine relationship; for we fear being alienated by those we love and trust the most.

Simon Said! My girlfriend never knew Simon until she started dating her producer-friend, and under normal circumstances, she would not have had anything to do with him or his kind had she known his true motives. But Simon was her boyfriend’s friend, so she tolerated him. Even though my girlfriend and her boyfriend (the producer) were a very handsome couple and appeared to be “the perfect couple” for a hot-second, contrary to her belief that he loved her, I smelled a big fat rat, and for very good reasons, too. However, she, like any love-struck puppy wouldn’t listen to me. Kiwii (what I’ll call my girlfriend in this story, for the sake of privacy), had been my best friend for several years, and although she initially had the type of personality that was loyal and trustworthy, she had a head of her own and was as stubborn as a mule. I, let alone Simon, couldn’t force her into doing anything unless she really wanted to. However, the day would soon come when she would find herself under Simon’s control and would find it difficult to live, or even function, without him.
