“I think I have some questions for you,” she said.
“I hope I have the answers.”
“I’m almost certain that you do. Tell me, Mr. Collingsworth, just exactly what was our relationship, husband and wife, were we dating or just casual acquaintances?”
He was looking at her wide-eyed, “Why would you think that I knew you Annie?”
“My name isn’t Annie and we both know that you know my real name. In fact, you know a lot that you are not telling me. Were you the one who did this to me?”
Tim’s heart was pounding so loudly in his chest he was afraid she could hear it. She was remembering, not all of it but enough in a short period of time that he had to do something quickly.
“Again, tell me why you think we would have known each other.”
“Because in a previous life, a life before I was attacked, you and I were at a beach alone. I remember you carried me up to a beach house. I was wet and cold. I remember being in front of a fire and you kissed me. We were very sensual toward each other but I don’t know how far it went because then the scene changed. It was the same beach house but it was late at night and dark. I was alone walking through the rooms. Someone was there. I couldn’t see who it was but I had the sense that someone was present was it you Mr. Collingsworth?”
“It was just a dream…”
“Don’t patronize me for God’s sake I’ve been through hell and back I deserve to know the truth. You are here because you need to know what I remember. I’ve already seen my records Mr. Collingsworth I know someone gave the order to have me transferred here in the dead of night on a private jet and you were the one who flew me here. I know someone is paying my medical bills which total in the millions of dollars but there is no record of who my benefactor might be. Is it you Mr. Collingsworth?”
He was astounded at what she knew. Dr. Lascotti had gone to great lengths to keep her records hidden.
“How do you know all of this?” he asked.
“I think I have told you enough, now it is time for you to tell me something.”
She sat straight up staring at him. His mind was racing trying to decide how much and what he should tell her.
“I did not do this to you. If I had been the one to attack you I would have seen to it that the job was finished instead of bringing you to a safe place where people would care for you.”
“A safe place,” she said softly. “I wasn’t safe in that hospital?”
“Not if the person who hurt you found out you weren’t dead.”
“You act as if you know who did it?”
“I know that the person who did this to you thought you were dead. I wanted them to go on thinking that way.”
She stared at him, “Them, you said them. There was more than one involved?”
“Not sure of that.”
