We were lined up with other C-47s as far as the eye could see. About 11:45PM we were airborne. We entered the plane by numbers. The even numbers were on the right side, the odd numbers on the left side, all facing front. It was very hard to sit down because of all the equipment we had to put on. The first thing was the "Mae West" Inflatable vest, the second was a 1903 Springfield rifle, which was a bolt action used by all the scouts, of which I was one. The next was our bag containing our socks, underwear, K-rations, clips of ammunition, our main parachute on our back and reserve on the front. My jump knife was strapped to my leg. For the first hour we were airborne, men were sleeping, smoking cigarettes, and some were throwing up! I was hoping that I wouldn't get sick like those men! I looked out the window and could see white trails of hundreds of ships below in the water.

About the Book
Joining the Army in 1943, Duane Fisher went on to fight with the famous 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles" in the 501st Parachute Infantry Division (PIR). Jumping in Normandy and Holland, surrounded in Bastogne, celebrating in Paris and receiving wounds along the way, Duane goes on to be a successful recruiter in the Philadelphia area for many years. Korea calls him away from home in 1954 as does Vietnam in the late 1960's.
About the Author
Duane Fisher is a 28 year US Army veteran with distinguished service during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the service, he then went on to work for the US Postal Service for 11 years. He now resides in Florida with his wife of 50+ years.
