About the Book

About the Author

What began as a curiosity of an ancestral peasant soup and its many origins, rapidly became an infatuation with a  much overlooked tuber,   mostly Burgundy,  (although she does live in other colors) The Queen of Root Vegetables.  The blushing Bride as it were.   Created more for  whimsey, sharing information and food for the soul than culinary greatness.

After the completion and publication of the Great Canadian Chicken, a most delightful and interesting journey, my next mission was to write that Grrreat Canadian Novel.  Somewhere along the way, I veered back to cooking.  I have always enjoyed cooking, entertaining and exploring  or creating new recipes.   However, I thought I needed to move in to a more worldly  direction.  A novel, of  great interest and  so much verbosity that it would become a Best Seller overnight! Somewhere along the way there, I became involved with a beet.  You might say began with a Bowl of Borscht.

The more I researched  and gathered Beet bios and applications, the more I became obsessed.   What fun to discover that  what  my Mother grew  so successfully in her garden, and cooked with such dedication, was one of the healthiest foods on this planet earth.  Guided only by her ancestral heritage, and natural outstanding cooking skills, She raised a healthy spunky family.  Could have been the Beet, seasoned with good parenting skills.

It is a pleasure to be able to share this book of Beetisms , so that you too may expand your joy of this wondrous vegetable.  The reason for the title Borscht and Beyond........  well, it will evolve as you read on.

The sequel to this exploration may well be the Beyond  Borsch that beets are  regularly used for.
