A MUSICAL BIRTHDAY
Overview: It’s your Birthday Baby, Famous Singers, Acrostic Birthday Card, Guessing Game, Musical Package, Dinner or Refreshments, Devotion
PROMOTION
Invitation/Poster: If your group is familiar with Musical Signs, write your message as follows: Cut sections from an old musical score and paste them in the correct places.
Dear Friend, We want you to know we think you are (Swell). Let me (Repeat Sign) really swell! Aren’t you glad (Picture of Honoree) loves to (Picture of Someone Singing or Playing).Now, I know that you need to (Rest) some (2 Meter signs) but there’s no way we can (Measure) how much you will be missed if you don’t come to our Party for (Name) (if you can, spell the name using notes on the staff do so) If you don’t come we will have a hard time (Hold) ing back the tears. So be (Sharp) and don’t leave us (Flat). Join our Musical Birthday Party. Date Time Place
If this is not applicable, use an enlargement of words and music to “Happy Birthday to You” only put the honoree’s name instead of ‘you’. “We’re having a Party a party for_______. Give date, time etc.
PREPARATION
Decorations: Place lots of Music Symbols and Birthday Decorations around the room and on the tables. Arrange the tables in a U with the honoree at the head. Prepare a cart to roll in with the cake on it.
Enlist Entertainers: Enlist Musicians to provide background music. You might ask a local Music Group or a Rhythm Band to come and play or provide some Instruments for guests to sing and play some songs.
THE PARTY
Greet and Seat guests:
Prepare slips of paper with the names Donald Duck, Mel Tillis, Tiny Tim, Marilyn Monroe, Roy Rogers etc. and put them in a hat. People will draw a name and must go to the honoree and sing “Happy Birthday” in the voice of the name they have drawn
Music: Print Words to “Happy, Happy Birthday Baby’ and “It’s your Party” and you can cry if you want to” for everyone to sing. Pass out the printed Lyrics and have everyone sing to the honoree.
Write an Acrostic Birthday Card: Have a blank paper poster board ‘Birthday Card’ on an easel. Put the Alphabet

About the Book
This book evolved from a fifty year collection of Theme Parties for all ages. The activities are presented with a contemporarily and timeless good humor. The author offers interesting, insightful and sometimes hilarious activities designed with the older generation in mind. She also interjects some personal trivia and her own proven recipes. The parties are planned from beginning to end and contain detailed instructions for promotion, decoration, activities and food. Each one follows a particular theme and includes a devotional thought. And, because Marilyn, from experience, realizes that expenses can be a concern for most groups she also offers suggestions for help in that area as well.
The Author has considered the abilities and interests of seniors while, at the same time, not forgetting that the ‘inside’ never grows old and that “There really is a child in all of us”. In fact, with a little modification, any age group can enjoy these parties. Anyone who works with a group or just wants to have a party for a family member will find invaluable help within these pages.
