In life we like to have memories, be it in a digital format or as a hard copy in an album, but the hardest of all, is our own personal memory, which can, like a photo with no substance, fade after time. So when we pick up our camera and we are not familiar with it, it can become foreign to us and we hold it as if it is some sticky thing from another planet. We need to get to know it so well that it becomes part of us and we can instantly change settings on it without thinking too much, but still know what we are doing. The idea behind taking a photo is to remind us of what great things we have done, if the photos we take don't 'SHOUT' at us, there is a problem and we will never remember where this so called shot was taken. We need to take a few extra seconds to evaluate our surroundings to see what does not need to be in the photo, where is the sun and how will shade effect the shot I am trying to take. You now have the camera in your hands, plus the handbook that goes with it, this will guide you to its features, as every camera has different features and functions that make it work effectively. What you need to remember is this: learn the correct way to start with, as it's easy to practice the wrong way and not make headway. I like to use the analogy of a sports person, someone who is self taught is not necessarily going to be a bad sports person, but get someone professional to do some adjustments and tweaking, and that persons performance can make the difference from number 20 in the world to number 1 or constantly in the top 10 of their chosen sporting profession. The beauty of today's photography being digital, is that there are instant results, you will know straight away that the photo could have been taken better and the exposure was not quite right, so make the adjustment and look at the difference and learn from what you do.
