About the Book
A year is a long time in Scottish Football……
Craig can't get a woman, Jonesy has just lost his job and Dave's wife is on the war-path. Together they seek distraction from life's hardships by fanatically supporting newly promoted Arthurston Rovers, their local football team, in the club's first ever season in the Scottish Premier League.
From the modesty of Christie Park Huntly to the grandeur of Ibrox, follow plucky Arthurston Rovers, with their eccentric German manager and team of nobodies, as they take on the elite of Scottish football (and Falkirk) in their bid for goals and glory.
Packed with colorful characters, almost completely accurate club histories, stunning stadium descriptions, and personal recollections and insights, Gloryhunting presents a laugh out loud picture of Scottish football instantly familiar to anyone with a passing interest in our `beautiful' game.
"The best book about Scottish football my mate has ever written!"….. Ian Black
"A rollercoaster ride of lager, steak-pie and fixed-odds coupons!" ….. The Arthurston Gazette.
"Likeable nonsense."….. Big On Glasgow.
About the Author
Alan Porteous is a 41 year old Scottish football fan who has seen more miserable, rain-soaked nil-nil draws than possibly anyone else on the planet. An almost perverse sense of duty has him rooting for the underdog in almost every circumstance and while he delights in telling everyone `It's all character building', he frequently spends Saturday evenings sitting in a darkened room twitching and eyeing up the bottle of painkillers on the nearby table.
Now bereft of almost any character, Alan lives at home in Maine,New England with his three clownfish and sausage-dog, Fernandez. He enjoys thunderstorms, cuddling up in front of the TV with a good movie, and long walks in the countryside.
