After my cousins lovingly and safely taught me to ride those ten-speed bikes, we had tons of fun. Leaving Danville, Illinois was a bittersweet parting. However, I had been anxious about home and I'm still happy about being back. I missed family and friends more than I would have thought possible.
Upon returning, everyone treats us like celebrities the first few days. They all ask countless questions about everything under the sun. Rudy even teases me about my meeting a handsome boyfriend while away. When she immediately bursts out laughing, I know for certain, it is all for play. She knows me better than to think I am boy-crazy.
Lovie has really missed us. She is happy we made it home safely and relieved to have us back to take turns with all the work. She is amazed to hear about the carefree lifestyle that our cousins enjoy without having to worry about a long list of chores. Being true to her words, Aunt Pudding brought us back in plenty of time to get ready for school. The school start date is still a week away and I am counting down.
Whenever she visits, Aunt Pudding likes to leave early Sunday morning. So, we plan to get up early to help with breakfast and see them off. Whenever company sleeps over, we give up our bed and take the sofa. I do not mind. It is just as good for sleeping once the hideaway bed is pulled out and all made up.
I am so tired tonight, I could sleep standing up. I try to sleep, but something will not let me. I almost give up, but then I begin to understand.
She is here. That lady is here. It is the first time she has come to visit me at this house. It is that lady all right. I would recognize her anywhere. Everything is about the same. The only difference is that tonight she seems even sadder while rocking in her chair. As before, her hands are lying on her lap. The vibes are so strong that I decide to pull the covers over my head and give her time to pass. Then I hear it.
For the first time, I can hear the sound of the rocker as that chair moves back and forth. This time she definitely wants something. She wants me, and I have no choice. I have to go. After tossing back the sheet, I ease out of bed. I have to be careful not to wake the others. I begin to feel cool.
