Chapter 4
He slid to a dusty stop, turned
down the Bob Seger hits tape he had been singing to and sat for a moment
smiling to the sound of the car loping to the rhythm of the nicely balanced
engine. Butch turned off the key and climbed from the car. He was careful not
to step on any of the junk, which might lead to a sprained ankle or worse.
He was not worried about any
rattlers that might be around. Even a snake was too cautious to hang around
this mess.
The old half boxer, half pit bull, that had been asleep on the front porch, farted and slowly got to its feet, bristled and appeared ready for action. The growl and bark sounded vicious enough to scare off most intruders, but Butch knew the old dog and just grinned to himself. Intruders, Butch laughed at the thought.
