I Press, I Rise
I continuously press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling,
I am continuously being transformed as I renew my mind with God's Word,
Going round and round in a world that tries to kill, steal and destroy my mentality,
Yet still I rise as a Daughter of Destiny out of the midst of hurt and pain, I rise,
Above judgment and criticism and racism…no, not racism, it is sin
And I rise above that too.
For God has not give me the spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind.
So daily I seek Him, I press into His loving arms to find grace and mercy to help in the time of,
I need Thee, Oh, I need Thee, every hour,
Yes, God feed me until I want no more, until my cup runneth over and over and over
That I might be as ointment poured forth into some other hungry soul
Searching for their identity, yet to be found in Christ and then it starts again
As they rise to be the men and women of God you called them out of darkness
Into your marvelous light, a cycle not to be broken but spoken to fight the enemy
As Jesus did in the Garden of Gethesemene and as we do
In the valleys we grow stronger and wiser rising above the worlds standards as priests,
A holy nation never to be forgotten or ignored, remember this battle is not ours,
But the Lord is on our side, Yes, we still rise as a people of God called,
To seek and save that which is lost in this world, commissioned by our Lord
To serve and not be served, so, Yes, I press and I rise,
Living up to God's standard set back in the day to show me the way of the Master
Whose cousin was that voice of the one crying out in the wilderness
Being about his Father's business as usual, it should also be with us saving thousands by day
And praying for them at night, time cometh when no man can work,
Will you be ready when Jesus comes,
He's standing at the door knocking on your soul to keep you from dying again and again,
In that never ending inferno because it is real and so is He concerned about you,
Yes, so come unto Jesus while you still have time for no man knows the day nor the hour
So let me help YOU rise.

About the Book
Ten years ago, I was diagnosed as having chronic depression. I was living and walking in darkness and it had consumed my entire being. I was in a relationship that was going no where, being used and emotionally damaged. I had one foot in the world, one foot in the church and no relationship with God. I was at the end of my rope and could not take life any longer. One night, I decided I was going to take my life. I was hurting and the pain was too much to bear. I sat on the floor, crying, thinking about how to end it all. I clearly heard Satan giving me ways to do it, until I opened my mouth and called on the name of the Lord, who interrupted Satan's plan to kill me that night. I asked the Lord to take the hurt and pain away. And He did it, immediately! I remember getting up without the weight that had consumed me and I decided from that day forward that I would serve the Lord. My Damascus culminates this life changing experience and journey of letting go of the world and hanging on to God. "At one time you surrendered yourselves entirely as slaves to impurity and wickedness for wicked purposes. In the same way you must now surrender yourselves entirely as slaves of righteousness for holy purposes." - Romans 6:19 To receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your Personal Savior, simply pray: Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am sinful and I need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died to pay the penalty for my sin. I want to turn from my sin nature and follow You instead. I invite You to come into my heart and life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
About the Author
Michelle Andre' Cannon is a native of Austin, Texas. She began writing at an early age, beginning with a journal and eventually writing poetry as a young adult. She believes writing is therapeutic and good for the soul, nourishing the innermost parts. Her poems are inspired by personal life experiences that have taken her on a journey that led her to the feet of Jesus. She enjoys writing, fashion design, volunteering in her community and spending time with family. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Concordia University Texas and is currently pursuing her Master of Education degree from Concordia. She is a faithful and active member at her church where she assists with intake of new members and facilitating new member orientation classes. She enjoys studying and teaching the Word of God, allowing it to shape and mold her that she may become a better witness, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is her hope and prayer that many will be inspired by her work and begin their own journey and meet God on that Damascus Road.
