About the Book

The level of venom, the intensity and frequency of the readers' rants in the daily newspaper compelled the publication's news reporter to call me for an interview. “Some of the language in the rants was so graphic, they were unsuitable for print,” he said. Wow! They were talking about me. Have you ever felt like you've been hit by a brick or punched in the stomach? Well, that is how I felt at that particular moment when he shared the comment with me.

In spite of the graphic description that some people had of me, it's important to stay true to who you are. I've lived my life being optimistic and positive, building bridges, nurturing relationships, working with diverse groups of people, serving others, communicating, and providing effective and proven leadership — oftentimes under duress, uncertainty, limited resources, and being misunderstood. This book will show you how I did it and how you can overcome negative publicity, adversity, challenges, and develop leadership skills that will impact your life and others for years to come.

About the Author

She's lived and travelled all over the world as a military brat. After graduating from college with a Journalism degree and having an unsuccessful marriage, she moved back to Augusta where her family's roots are. Always interested in making a difference in peoples' lives, she worked for a weekly newspaper for several years, Paine College as an Admissions Counselor for a year, an advertising agency for a couple of years and then decided to spread her wings and start her own public relations and marketing company. Not afraid to take calculated risks, she started a magazine that failed after the first issue was published… but she persevered.

She served on many non-profit organization boards, started organizing small business conferences, joined the Chamber of Commerce, and started a business networking group that addresses the needs of an underserved area of the city. In 2004, someone had the audacity to suggest she run for Mayor of Augusta. A far-fetched idea at first, but after much contemplation, incredible support and lots of prayer, she decided to go for it. She didn't receive enough votes to win, but that didn't stop her from running for another race for a House seat the following year.

She never missed a beat, despite the challenges, obstacles, and name calling. She gave that race all she had, but still came up short. Since then she's started her own successful talk radio show, now ranked second in the local market, is already working on another book slated for release this year, has received numerous leadership and community awards, continues to serve on prominent boards, organizing conferences and workshops and living life to the fullest. Sure it gets tough sometimes, but we only get one shot at life. She has decided to give God and people all that she has.
