About the Book

This book may be the only complete collection of law and tactics on the use and misuse of private annuities. It is written for the professional advisor – the attorney, accountant, financial planner, and others – so it is necessarily more detailed than most lay-persons would find tolerable. To keep it readable, however, I present the information directly to the reader as end user, rather than switching back and forth from factual presentation to suggestions on how to present it to the client. As advisor, just draw the necessary inferences.

About the Author

F. Bentley Mooney, Jr. is a Los Angeles attorney in private practice since 1972.

He has held Martindale-Hubbell’s highest ratings for legal skills and ethics since 1977, and has been listed by that publisher in its Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers each year since first publication.

Mr. Mooney holds a master of laws degree in taxation, and is certified by the California State Bar as a specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law. He consults widely with accountants and other lawyers in his areas of practice concentrations.

Major practice concentrations are in long-term nursing home care planning (shifting the costs of long term nursing home care to preserve economic security), asset protection planning (estate planning taking litigation exposure into account), the latter including foreign private annuities.

Mr. Mooney receives calls for expert comment from Forbes, Medical Economics, The Los Angeles Business Journal, Wall Street Journal and more than a dozen other publications.

He is the author of numerous articles and books. Among the latter are Handcuff the Tax Man, Going Bare, The Artful Use of Offshore Tax Havens, Cluster! A Flexible Approach to the Cluster Agency Maze, When Health is Lost: Providing for Long-Term Nursing Care (1988), Creating & Preserving Wealth and Preserving Your Wealth. Released in 2001 are When Health is Lost (an update of the 1988 book) and Critical Planning for Target Defendants.
