Finally, it comes to fruition! A local history that mixes just enough fiction to keep you turning the pages. For years I have been reading Sam's articles about Hexie in the Somerset Historical Society's Laurel Messenger, and his privately published articles. I've heard the local folk stories about the witches and how Hexie got its name. I have felt the chills go up my spine when I had to drive through Hexie on a blood-red full moon, and was glad to get out alive! I don't believe all those tales, of course, but they do make for good reading and for adding cultural color to an area that my mother always referred to as "The Hollow." Impoverished economically, it's alive with the culture of the Northernmost Appalachian Mountains. Sam brings that heritage alive, and will keep it alive for generations to come. - Linda Marker

About the Book
Riding the white horse her father gave her as a wedding present , Priscilla and her husband, Samuel Rugg, came to the Turkeyfoot Valley in Somerset County, PA. The year is 1789 and she immediately becomes a person of suspicion to the early German settlers. They tag her as Hex Berge, or witch of the hills. The legend lives on. Move ahead one hundred years to the times of Mary Wyno, the witch from Slovenia whom most of the people in the area held with suspicion. She appears and disappears at will, she can silence horses and her spells become reality. Here in Hexie her spirit lives on.
About the Author
Samuel Miller was born and raised in the area of Hexie in Somerset County, PA. He left in 1954 to attend college and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In 1976 he retired from the Navy as a Master Chief Cryptologist and opened a tailor shop in Pensacola, FL. He is still an active tailor and for the past 25 years he has produced a product that is well recognized throughout much of the world.
