The one-hour flight from Clark Air Force base in the Philippines to Ben Hoa Airfield in Vietnam raced by quickly, too quickly for the young men headed for the war zone. Inside the cargo place, there was utter silence, as each man dealt with his own thoughts, fearful premonitions of what was to come. As devastating as these thoughts were, none could paralled the real experience ahead, something right out of the "Twilight Zone."
The first stop was a replacement area that consisted of structures resembling summer camp housing, with walls only halfway up and screening that reached the rest of the way to an unfinished ceiling. Eight men were housed in each of these units, each man provided with one of the double bunks available. On this afternoon, ten men were assigned to this particular unit. Jon was number ten.
Following a cold, ration-style dinner, the men peeled off their rain soaked clothing, collasping into one of the temporarily assembled army bunks. Cold, wet, and exhausted, Jon still could not sleep. Running over and over again through his mind was the question, what in the name of all that is holy am I doing here?
The evening hours ticked slowly away while Jon wrestled with thoughts of home, his wife, and new baby. Under cover of darkness, he valiantly fought away the slow burning tears that threatened to expose his vunerability, temporarily allowing his self-confidence to seep away. War was hell! Quietly repeating the words from the 91st Psalm, learned as a child in Sunday school, he finally drifted off to sleep.
The thought came through his dreams, through his vague grasp on consciousness. LEAVE THE TENT NOW. Blinking his eyes, Jon realized anew that this was real. He was in vietnam. Again the thought came, GET OUT OF THE TENT NOW. Stunned by the urgency of the thought, Jon remembered the warning given earlier that they were not to leave the tent due to camouflaged Vietcong sniper fire in the area. God be real, you want me to do what?
Pulling on his still damp clothes, wet from the monsoon rain earlier, Jon prepared to leave the tent. He and another soldier exited quietly, making their way through the mud and the muck and the pouring rain to the hastily built latrine. Seconds later they heard the ear-splitting explosion. The Vietcong mortared the make shirt tent they had just left. The temporary quarters they had just walked out of no longer existed. No one inside survived.
Jon, along with several surviving soldiers from other tents, hid out in the muddy trenches for the remainder of the night. In the morning, an armed convoy arrived to pick them up, escorting them to Army Headquarters.

About the Book
Do I believe in angels? This is the question of the century. I'd like to take a minute to share a different concept of angels. The beautiful angels with golden halos and soft, gossamer wings, seen floating around mysteriously searching for people to help are only seen in pictures. I believe angels do exist and can be found in our thoughts as an explanation for something we can't explain in any other way. Angels are God's thoughts passing to mankind and there's an angel thought with each of us, ever present, always available to comfort. The Bible tells us that we will hear what God, the Lord, will speak. All we need to do then is to be still and listen for these soft voices from a benevolent God who loves us unconditionally. There's an angel thought reflecting every idea needed by humanity. The stories that follow are all true. Each one demonstrates the power in listening for the still, small voice. Ask me again. Do I believe in angels? Yes, of course, they are the continuous flow of right ideas from God to man.
About the Author
Carol-Ann Medina is a retired educator, both teacher and counselor who holds a Master's Degree in Education. During her tenure as an educator, she was entrusted with this country's greatest natural resource, its children. Her smiles, enthusiasm, and integrity reached out to children and parents in ever-widening circles with each passing year. Her life continues to touch everyone around her, as she currently teaches piano lessons and continues to volunteer in kindergarten classrooms as a storyteller. Her puppet, Little Bear, entertains children and adults alike.
Mrs. Medina's personal life includes three children and six grandchildren, including two sets of twins. As a military wife, moving all around the country in support of her husband's naval commitments, she is now content to remain in one place. It was always her dream to be a writer. This book reflects the epitome of her faith, as she shares with the reader actual experiences. Angel Whispers are the still, small thoughts that come when we need them the most. They offer protection, comfort, and uplift our thoughts to the ever presence of God in our lives.
