Matilda and the Beautiful Garden

When they arrived to the garden, Delilah exclaimed, “Wow! Where did all the different colors come from?” Matilda smiled and said, “Our friend the sun gently woke them up after the storm. They weren't all here before because it wasn't their time.” “It wasn't their time,” repeated Delilah as she thought about her words. “But now,” said Matilda, “They are in full bloom - some living together, some living apart. Each flower's family is different and that's okay!” Matilda seemed happy with her explanation. But Delilah questioned Matilda, “Being different is okay to talk about?” “Yes! We have to talk about our differences - it is who we are,” said Matilda. “What about the ones who are sad because they feel different that their parents live in two separate homes? And what about the storm? How did the flowers survive the storm? And how can they be so happy after the storm?” Delilah was trying to make sense of everything. “Delilah,” whispered Matilda, “All the flowers can still live and laugh and cry and love and dance and sing and do most anything because they made it through the storm.” “Me too?” asked Delilah. “Yes you!” Matilda reassured her friend with a big hug.
