From My Mothers Womb

One Monday morning earlier than usual I had a bench under an Almond tree. This tree was way up on the hill and had survived all four Hurricanes. It was big and strong as I sat down on the bench and lowered my head. I was not praying but I was thinking of a song I use to sing at church in the early part of 1955. My three children were two, three and four years old. The title of the song is “Peace in the Valley” and it went like this. “I am tired and so weary but I must go along till the Lord comes and calls me, calls me away! When the morning is bright, and the lamb is alive, and the day is dark; dark as the sea there will be peace in the valley for me, some day; there will be peace in the Valley. Oh Lord, I pray! When the bear will be gentle and the wolf will be tame, and the lion will lay down by the lamb, and beast from the wild will be led by a little child, and I will change from this creature that I am, yes Lord”.
