The piercing cries that echoed in the night were followed by others, sounding closer now, leaving Sheldon and Alex standing with their backs to the danger lurking somewhere out in the darkness, close by. Both knew that they had to get out of here, before it was too late, but neither one could seem to find the strength to actually move! They needed to get across the big ditch, away from the trees, and at least to the other side, where they had the open road to lead them out of here. Finally, Alex found at least her voice, and in a soft whisper, so low that Sheldon almost couldn't hear her, she mumbled, "Holy cow, we have to...". Alex's voice stopped, as another piercing cry, broke the silence yet again. This time, there was no doubt that the howls....at least four or five of them now....were definitely closer! In fact, they were too close, and Sheldon and Alex suddenly both knew that it was too late! The blood-chilling cries were coming from right behind them! The howls now seemed to fade out, leaving a haunting silence echoing behind. Sheldon took this sudden silence as their last chance to get out of there..... Alex

About the Book
I designed this series of books to address some of the problems that our children face in today's difficult world, after finding a lack of books while raising my son, that taught any lessons or dealt with any of the pertinent issues that our children deal with growing up. My hope is that this series will teach kids values and lessons in a way that they can relate to, with a bit of humor, and a good scary story. This first book touches on a number of subjects including, as the title suggests, first impressions or judging people by their looks, as well as teasing, name calling, friendship, and the consequences of not following the rules. Parents may wish to discuss these issues more in depth with your children, perhaps including some of your own ideas or morals in the conversation. Hopefully, by the end of each book, the reader will walk away with the subtle teachings in mind, to help see them through some of the difficult times faced by today's generation, or at least give them something to think about that relates to their own individual lives.
About the Author
L. L. Scully is a single mom, animal lover and advocate. She lives in northern Ontario, Canada, with her son, rescue dog, and cats. She has worked a wide variety of jobs throughout her life, everything from telemarketing to owning and operating her own business. After overcoming many life altering obstacles, including recently losing both parents, as well as a couple of other family members, as an only child, L. L. has now made it a priority to see her lifelong dream of writing and publishing her first novel become a reality. She is currently working on future volumes in this series, as well as an adult fiction novel based on true events.
