I Can Speak “Burp”
I can speak “Burp”—
It’s a forbidden language.
My mom has even said
That I sound like a savage.
You shouldn’t use “Burp”
Anytime that you want—
Not in Florida, New Jersey
Or even Vermont.
Don’t try it at home
Or with an adult.
You will not enjoy
The painful result.
At my mom’s dinner party,
With her friends, I was surrounded.
I belched out some “Burp”
And ended up grounded.

About the Author
Paul Arthur can goof around with the best of them. According to his children Lillie, Lindy and D.R., he is a "crazy and funny Daddy." Poetic Paul has been writing poetry his whole life, but mostly for girls (Yuck!). Now that all of his children have entered elementary school, he has been inspired to write a different and funny type of poetry. He now gets his ideas from his children, their friends and their school.
Poetic Paul was actually lucky enough to work at his children's school as a reading teacher. Working with kids one-on-one and in groups was a great way to get into the minds and personalities of many different kids. He worked on perfecting his poetry by "performing" them in front of dozens of classes. Getting reactions of laughter and smiles has been a great inspiration for him.
He lives in the Florida panhandle with his wife, Heather, their three kids and their two cats, Sugar and Spice.
