Expected to be the world’s new project, world government is not a forum for the powerful to rule the weak, or the rich to despise the poor. It is a forum for the weak to meet with the powerful and the poor to wine and dine with the rich, thereby giving the people of the world the opportunity to use the English gentleman’s approach to solve problems in the society. According to Lord Boothby, the English people “talk out their problems, eat out their problems, drink out their problems, laugh out their problems.”
A global state government will enable the people of the world to talk out their problems, wine and dine their problems and laugh out their problems making world government a peaceful problem-solving machine for humanity. Remember, we live in an extreme world with a harsh divide between the haves and have-nots, where only a levelheaded institution such as a democratic world government can acquire the legitimacy to moderate the harshness of such a divide. The United Nations is a small and incomplete form of world government, and since its creation in 1945 the organization has never been criticized for any form of dictatorship or impartiality. The organization is admired and loved by the people of the world for its philanthropy and impartiality despite the structural weaknesses that prevent it from doing better. Citizens in most Third World countries trust the UN more than their national governments. World government has to uphold these values, while removing the structural difficulties that prevented the organization from better helping humanity.
All the citizens of planet earth must be governed by the same good laws of politics and governance, for what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Why should some be governed by participatory democracy and others by exclusive aristocracy? We all need and enjoy the benefits of descent housing, health, education and other facilities that enhance our wellbeing, meaning that we are the same. Why then can humanity not accept positive universal roles of politics in the same way it accepts the use of cars, television sets and mobile telephones?
Claims made by individuals to own the sun and the moon are jokes, but eye-opening warnings to humanity on the dangers on the absence of a legitimate global authority, with the responsibility to define planet earth’s relationship with the rest of the universe.
The outcome of presidential elections in Ivory Coast in November, 2010 was another warning to the international community, which was terrified after the incumbent president hijacked election results that were initially proclaimed in favour of his opponent and declared himself the winner. The United Nations’ reaction to the electoral banditry was spontaneous and unprecedented. The UN Secretary General for a first time took sides in favour of the opposition candidate believed to be the real winner of the elections. On the 4th of December 2010, the Ivory Coast witnessed the swearing in of two presidents, an uncommon phenomenon. Before the Ivorian election standoff, Guinea witnessed violent presidential elections a few weeks before and Haitian elections just after were in no way peaceful. Mid January 2011 witnessed the popular overthrow of Tunisian President Ben Ali, after more than two decades of dictator rule, his departure brought no immediate peace in the country, Madagascar is in a continuous electoral limbo. Kenya and Zimbabwe experienced deadly violence after presidential elections. A world government would give meaning to elections as the only path to democratic transition, and not a path to bloodshed; it will conduct general elections in limping democracies and install elected personalities into office. Nation-states are small, weak and overburdened by national problems. A supranational institution is inevitable to assist nation-states to solve the open-ended problems confronting humanity and the planet.
Invaluable appreciation goes to world presidents and governments, who in recent times have raised meaningful questions and suggestions on the need for reform in the United Nations system, to render it more efficient in solving global problems.

About the Author
Born on 20th May 1974, the second anniversary day of Cameroon’s unitary state, Unity Elias Yang is the first African member of the Board of the Organization Vote World Parliament (VWP) in Quebec-Canada. He initially read Physics in the University of Buea, a venture that enabled him to compare the order and pragmatism that prevails in the world of physics to the spirally deadly disorder that prevails in the world of politics. He attempted to reconcile the question: If the laws of science and nature are universal, why can the laws of politics not be? This was the inspiration for this book.. The admission of his country into the Common Wealth on November 1st 1995 also created the imagination that the world could go beyond international organisations. He is doing Masters in International Law in the University of Yaounde 2, and holds an Associate Degree in Peace and Humanitarian Relief (United Nations Peace and Relief Operations) from the Peace Operations Training Institute (POTI) in Jamestown Virginia. He holds a diploma from the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM) Yaounde. He is also the author of the Third World, Where is it?
