About the Book
Comments by Ellen Kort, former Poet Lauriette of Wisconsin, appointed by Governor Tommy Thompson during his term. The author considers Ellen’s guidance responsible for becoming a published author and poet.
After sending Ellen her first novel and other published poems, Ellen sent the following words of encouragement giving me permission to use her quotes:
“When I received your book, I couldn’t put it down”.
“You created marvelous images and so many rich details”.
“You had many stories to write and you were ready to write them”.
“You are a dedicated fine writer and poet”.
“The world is waiting for your poetry”.
About the Author
Dear Readers.
After publishing and promoting my first book, “Woodside,”
a fictionalized autobiography from birth to age fifteen, (1930-1944)
many readers said, “We’d like to know what happened after that?” I started to write the sequel, “Cumberland, the High School Years.” Had written ten chapters. Old files turned up poems and stories. There were enough for a different book. The sequel was put aside.
Putting this book together has been a joy for me. Thanks to the members of “The Far Write” ladies that critiqued some of the peices.
I’m grateful for my mother’s love of writing and teaching me to
appreciate poetry and books. Sister,Dolores, was a writer and brother Jim is working on a book of his life. All relatives and friends urge me to continue. The most praise goes to God, who gives me courage and ambition after a wonderful career as a teacher.
I have put these verses from the old testement of the Holy Bible on my office bulletin board and read them often.
Ecclesiastics 12-14 tells us:
v.11- The words of the wise are like cattle prods- painful but helpful. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep.
v.12- “But my child, let me give you some further advice: Be careful, for writing books is endless, and much study wears you out.
v.13-Fear God and obey his commands, for this is the whole duty of man.
v.14- For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.
So, I go on writing and feel secure that it is God’s plan for me.
God bless all my readers,
Sincerely, Viola Brunette Braem
