About the Book

This book should become the “Camper’s Guide” for anyone interested in staying at any of the state parks and waysides in Minnesota. It is filled with details of each of the parks and waysides; what facilities are available from one park to the next, descriptions of the campgrounds and the campsites, and what points of interest may be nearby. Along with all of the information, there are maps of the campgrounds and a map of each of the parks included. But, that is only one part of the book. Another part of the book describes the adventure that was had by the author and his wife as they traveled the highways and back roads of Minnesota getting from one park to the next. There is detailed information concerning the history of many of the parks because the diversity of the state parks is just a mirror of nature’s diversity here in the great state of Minnesota.

About the Author

He is a born Minnesotan. He and his wife, Julie, live in a small log cabin in the woods north of Mille Lacs Lake. He owes his love for the outdoors and for camping to his parents. When Michael and his sisters were young, the entire family would go on extended camping trips all over the United States. He is a veteran canoeist and has been canoeing with his family for many years all over Minnesota and Wisconsin. One of his under graduate degrees, from the University of Wisconsin, is in Resource Management. This education just added to his already existing appreciation for the land and all of its natural resources. He has always loved history and enjoys finding out ‘the story behind the story’. One particular historical interest is in the Dakota Conflict in Minnesota in 1862. With his ability to tell a tale and to mingle interesting facts in with the story, this should keep the reader well informed and entertained.
