About the Book

This is a book about the life and experiences of Pat Morrell as a Realtor, and a real estate broker. On her long journey she spent over fifty one years in the real estate industry as an active agent. She traveled through many valleys and over many mountains, experiencing challenges, losses, and trying times. It required faith, determination, and persistance. There were constant, new experiences, and changes in the “market,” and the paper work requirements. The book includes articles and poems Pat wrote that were published over the years in the Real Toro, Real Estate Guide, and SACBOR by her real estate board. Some of the articles are “motivational,” and some are about the lives of realtors, including President’s of her Board of Realtors. Her book, “So You Want To Sell Real Estate” was started over thirty years ago, and never completed. Because of other obligations, and life’s challenges, it was filed away until just recently. Those pages are included in her book, as well as other miscellaneous, inspirational, motivational, and thought provoking articles and poems. The “survivor’s” can take a trip down “memory lane, ” journeying” back through the years.

About the Author

Pat was active in the real estate industry for over fifty one years. The changes she experienced during those years were unbelievable. Through the years the technology gained, in many respects, drastically changed the way business is done. In the beginning contract and listing forms were one page. Eventually, over time, contracts/deposit receipts grew as large as eight pages. There were no disclosure forms required, and much of the time even termite inspections were not ordered or required. Many deposits were taken using a “promissory note.” In the late 1950’s sellers were paying ten to twelve points (loan fees,) (one point is one percent of the loan,) to obtain the buyer’s loan. Most of these were F.H.A. and V.A. loans. Or, the seller would take $500.00 dollars down, or some small amount, and carry a second deed of trust behind the first lien holder. Those loans were assumable without qualifying, and did not obtain “prepayment penalties.” In 1964 Pat studied for, and received her broker’s license, and opened her own office in 1965 as Pat Morrell, Realtor. At that time to use the term “Realtor” you had to have a “brokers” license, and pay the real estate board $500.00 to join, (the fee at the time she joined.) This allowed her to use the term “Realtor.” Today, all agents are called “Realtors.” It was written in the S.A.C.B.O.R. (Southern Alameda County Board of Realtors) “Real Toro” “Pat holds the unique distinction of being the only member of S.A.C.B.O.R. to be honored as “Miss Realtor.” The award was made in a contest held in 1960 to choose the female who “best exemplifies the term Realtor from the standpoint of ethics, sales ability, personality, and overall respect for her fellow workers.” Pat has written over twelve hundred poems. In 2009 she published her first poetry book “The Climb Up Life’s Mountain,” a motivational and inspirational book, and in 2010 she published her second poetry book “Poems For Conservatives.”
