Night People Footsteps tore holes in dark like hot iron on silk, sizzling, smelling ripping long shreds in night unraveling like homespun echoed in sizzling top hat. In those days people wore shoes with leather heels that clicked and rang on wooden floors and cement sidewalks from an open first floor window on hot sleepless nights you could tell the strollers from the striders. Those going somewhere with deals to make and those with life to live just meandering to find some lonesome horn floating out some open cellar door of a late night jazz club. For night people, there is nothing sentimental about the journey. On the dark maybe damp streets lonely on the front-end of the week when only the runners come to the dance but never do.

Blues and birdsong flamenco and flowing rivers rain and restless feet storms and Southern "patois" The poems of a young Southern boy who joined the military, travelled the world, got an education, made a whole big bunch of friends, came home to the woods and walks there often, happily watching birds and watching the world pass by, occasionally saying a few words at it, with a laugh and a shake of the head.
About the Author
Steve is a retired United States Air Force public affairs officer. He has been involved in many forms of writing and communication over the years as a magazine editor, speechwriter, press liaison, broadcast commander and foreign community relations advisor. He holds degrees in broadcast journalism, painting and international relations. He lived, worked and studied in Europe for over thirty years. Steve has traveled in at least twenty one European countries, Guam in Vietnam War days, Iceland and Saudi Arabia. Steve and his wife retired to the woodlands of the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas. He also shares his work on Facebook, under the name honest abe manning.
