Soldiers always have had an exquisite way of expressing themselves. This has not changed since Julius Caesar. A good example is a quote from the diary of Private Lord of the 7nd Illinois that I had to read twice before realizing what he was saying. He wrote: "I went back to get some more water, and about twenty feet above where I got the water (last night) a man shot through the head lay with his head in the little stream. I called George. We didn't say much. . . . I can't say that I was really sick but I felt queer, and George said he did. George looked sick, and he said I did. We didn't have any coffee that morning and we didn't drink any water."
