An Author’s Personal Journey into the World of Internet Dating

Now that you have learned how and when Internet Dating started, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. In the upcoming chapters are true, juicy and unbelievable stories by real people who ‘searched for love’ on the web.
But first, I would like to tell you about my personal experiences with the men I met while on an Internet Dating Site. After weeks of researching several Internet Sites, I ran to the store and purchased a journal, for I was planning to write information about each man I was in contact with. My memory is not as good as it once was, so keeping a journal allowed me to remember things such as “ the sound of his voice, his arrogance (or lack of), and his morals and values.”
I designed a system that would rate each individual from one to ten points. One point would be the least compatible and interesting to me, while ten points would be the most intriguing and appealing. I didn’t want to grade these men on “looks” alone for as in my previous relationships that were strictly based on looks; the end result always ended in heartache and disaster. In the past, whenever I met a nice guy, I felt like I was being smothered. I would immediately get turned off and move on to greener pastures. Even if he looked like Brad Pitt, the discernment would bore me to death. My score card was nothing to write home about, so after years of therapy and soul searching, I finally got it right! I’m looking for “a nice guy with a Bad Boy edge.” And I’m certainly not going to find him in a bar or a club. So, I decided to take a dip into the sea of Internet Dating. This way maybe I could fall for a man by discovering what he is made of before meeting him.

I wanted to find my match by developing a personalized grading system composed by me; based on compatibility, looks, interests, and “our first date.” There are several Dating Sites that attempt to match people with similar likes and dislikes; but I know what I am looking for, so I designed a system that pertained to my individual wants and needs. I call the system, “Victoria’s Secrets.” (lol!) After joining the site and posting my profile and pictures, I started receiving dozens of emails a day. Two weeks of receiving winks and reading emails, I wrote back to a man named Jon. Jon was a 58 year old man who ironically lived only a few miles away from where I lived. He told me he was retired from a government job, and was now enjoying the good life in Florida. Jon was a very handsome man (scored an “8” in the look s department,) who had been ‘happily’ divorced for 12 years. We agreed to meet for coffee the following day at a local Starbucks. The following day as I was getting ready, I felt like a fifteen-year-old high school girl preparing for her first date.

In the meetings, the members are taught “The Butterfly Effect: The 11 Step Program,” which teaches them ‘how to be who they already are.’ Ms. Howard once represented her state in the Mrs. USA Pageant. She has appeared on Fox &Friends, The Sally Jessee Raphael Show, Good Day L.A., Good Morning Sacramento; and is called “The Relationship Guru,” by the media.
