Fountain of Youth i. Larry and I used to put on plays in his garage around the corner from Dewey School. There were no props or costumes. Just a cement floor and a stage of boards placed on stacks of bricks. The trick was to see how well we could pull the curtain back and forth – back and forth, squeeking , pulleys and clothesline. Fifth graders not eligible for Equity pay and benefits. ii. Ann and I crossed the street thru the alley, over the wet brown leaves and under the aging barbed-wire fence, trespassing. Fearless. The rivulet of five or six inches’ depth held life – little clams, crayfish, minnows – better than the tanks in Miss Esther’s biology class, years later. And acquatic flora growing not quite to the water’s surface. Not yet tainted by wads of gum, pop-tops, used condoms or cigarette butts. Shorts She lifts her right paw. Sign of something. She doesn’t tell. Birds outside – or squirrels – call for the broadbrush of her tail. Its disdain apparent to her kitty-watchers. Good thing she’s not perched on my chest, her poopie in my face!

About the Book
Something Borrowed, Something Blue is the poet’s 3rd book. Included here are new poems, work from childhood, essays, interviews and dialogue paraphrased from other sources and poetry penned by others used with permission. The images include those submitted by request of the poet. Much of these works are intensely personal. Themes are life through a gay filter, faith, health and disability, growing up and animals.
About the Author
Lewis Bosworth is a linguist by training. His education includes studies at the Universities of Wisconsin and Michigan, and he was on the faculty of Wesleyan University in CT. A Midwesterner at heart, his interests include musical theatre, art, travel, GLBTQ studies, disability issues, church work and dining out. He was born in Detroit and resides in Madison, WI. He writes and reads poetry because words reflect the diversity, culture and spirit of world peoples. Young people should be taught to hear poems as fun and games and to express themselves by writing stream-of-consciousness – non-graded!
