Introduction
Let me start with THANK YOU! If you are reading these words then you have purchased my first book (or you borrowed it from someone – you deadbeat). Sorry, I am already insulting my “fans” and I am 3 sentences into this thing! Did I already say ‘Thank you’?
For years I have wanted to write a book. Part of my ‘bucket list’, I suppose. The issue has been what the heck am I going to write about? When I started to write these words, I was thirty-five years old. I am married with three children. I have had a very fulfilling, but somewhat “regular” life. I have not cured cancer or climbed the Andes. I am not a professional athlete. I am not a politician (don’t worry, I am getting to the “why” you should keep reading!). I am not famous. I am not special.
What I am here to offer you in this book is the viewpoint of the ‘everyman’. As you will learn, I cover a wide range of topics in short editorial-style chapters in the book. Interestingly, I think you will discover that most of you could have probably written a similar story if you made a point of capturing life’s journey; I just wish I did it sooner.
The genesis of this book was a blog that I wrote on a weekly basis for two years. What began as a business column, which took a humorous look at the workplace, quickly transformed into a general observations blog about everyday life. Topics range from business to family to sports to complete randomness.
And while we are on the topic of Randomness, I think you will find that segment the most humorous in the book. This part of the book is a wide array of true stories, bizarre observances and brutal honestly about things we all think…but rarely act on.
For all of you with a family, especially a family with young children, I think will appreciate the Family, Friends & FOES… portion. The good news about 'Can I Be Frank?' is you can pick it up and put it down without losing a beat. When you are just about to pull out your last hair due to your insane children’s antics, pick up the book and flip to this section. I can sympathize.
The Take This Job And… portion of the book pokes fun at many of the quirky and silly aspects of the daily grind. You will be provided with business insights that you just cannot find on CNN or Fox News. This segment also gives you the pathetic, but completely true, description of the experience of being unemployed from where I sit. You will meet Ace. You will meet Ramon.
The Sports & Other Manly Stuff was written for men, by a (so called) man. This section is actually scratch and sniff. Problem is that it smells like sweat, stale keg beer and cigars. Should have probably thought that one through?
I hope ‘Can I Be Frank?’ will make you laugh out loud but also say to yourself, ‘That is so true!’
