About the Author

Jack Hranicky is a retired U.S. Government contractor, but has been involved with archaeology as a full-time passion for over 40 years. His main interest is the Paleo-Indian period; however, he has worked in all facets of American archaeology. He has published over 200 papers and over 32 books in archaeology with his most recent being a two-volume, 800 page, 10,000 artifact publication on the material culture of Virginia. In the Middle Atlantic area, he is considered an expert on prehistoric stone tools, such as Clovis, and Native American rockart. He is a charter member of the Registry of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) and numerous state and national archaeological societies. And, since he joined the Archeological Society of Virginia (ASV) in 1966, he is its senior member and served on its Executive Board for 35 years. He has served as president of the ASV, Eastern States Archeological Federation (ESAF), and been chairman of the Alexandria Archaeology Commission. He runs the Virginia Rockart Survey and (formerly) the McCary Fluted Point Survey. He excavated the Spout Run Paleoindian Site in Clarke County, Virginia, which is the oldest above-ground site in North America. This site was a news release in 110 news media around the world. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Authentic Artifact Collectors Association (AACA) in 2010. Also, as a government contractor, he received the Meritorious Achievement for Excellence Award from the U.S. Department of State. He is listed on Wikipedia.
