Leading to lift-off:
The winged monster,
Half Blake Griffin, half griffin,
Soars like an eagle,
Meets Kendrick Perkins,
Toughest member of Thunder,
Arms and elbow up,
Blasts uncoachable,
Heavenly throw-down dunk from
Top of backboard square,
Sends Staples Center
Into murmurous frenzy,
Adds and-1 free throw.

Water front and left, pin left,
Tee shot misses long;
From behind the green,
A delicate chip required –
Tiger on Sunday;
Downhill, thick-roughed flop,
Unforgettable trickle,
Enormous fist pump;
Tiger creates it –
Memorial to Masters –
At Jack's tournament;
Birdie propels Woods,
Seventy-third win in sight,
Hunting Golden Bear;
At last, Nicklaus waits,
Sees Tiger's final birdie –
A win for a tie.

His goggles and cap,
Clutched down by his thigh, still wet –
Winner walking off.

Hunter having hit him hope –
Straight, second-base spear;
Central collision,
Preceding Panda's puffed pelt,
Gets Giants going…
Crawford's comebacker,
Splitting Lynn's twisted wicket,
Triples team's total;
Peak picking placement,
Zito's zephyr zigs and zags –
Bunt barely beaten.

The ball and play float, at risk –
Johnny on the spot;
Manziel transitions,
His gaze returned to end zone,
Ball back in his hands;
Johnny Football-Swope,
A&M-arrival play –
Easy pitch and catch…
Slicing 'Bama's route,
Everett's wise 4th-quarter pick –
Go-ahead bid fails…
Set to receive punt,
'Bama enters neutral zone –
Unbeaten no more.

About the Author
Andrew Hanson played three seasons of professional baseball in the Independent Leagues following four years of success on the diamond for Princeton. He has previously published articles about sports in The Sports Lawyers Journal and The Keene Sentinel. He currently resides in Boston, in between the Garden and Fenway.
