About the Book

Why did I want this book to be written? Well, I think I have had a very happy life, I've made friends, some as far back as 60 years when I was in my amateur opera days and some from my professional life. Naturally things change as you get older, but luckily, reading through my diaries it all comes flooding back. I hope dear readers, you will enjoy this.

About the Author

Susan Higgins has had a wide-ranging career in music which has included music journalism. She studied at the Arts Centre, Dartington Hall, and trained as a singer at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Walther Gruner. A solo singing career followed, giving two well-received recitals in Wigmore Hall, broadcasting for BBC Radio 3 and singing in oratories and opera.
She subsequently developed a busy practice, teaching violin, viola and piano as well as singing. In recent years, her solo singing work has been replaced with conducting. She works with choral societies and choirs and has performed a great deal of the choral repertoire. She also runs a Singers’ Workshop.
Her writing career started by working for Rhinegold Publishing. She made regular contributions to “Classical Music,” “Music Teacher,” “The Singer” and at one time, produced a music newspaper in Surrey.
She is married to fellow musician Tom Higgins who, for many years, played in the orchestra of The English National Opera. He often travelled to the Coliseum on the train with Ann Howard. He subsequently embarked on a busy and successful career as a conductor and arranger. They have two grown children.
