ALIVE! I think it was the sheer heaviness of All those weights Carried way too far. Worn and tired, suffering much, Eventually compelled to let it all go-- I just gave up. When wounded at first, I cried out loud Yelping and yelling seeking for help. But ignored, I stayed on the floor— The lower part there is where I had laid On that round. Right there. See. There, where all that dirt goes down, well That was the place that was destined by the Death Hounds As My new home. Most folks didn’t know It was me out there on that hill. For them, I had functioned so well—my Pending death—it still Just was not so clear. They knew me as the one Who is always able to Fill up a few empty cups Every now, and then. Seems like their Consensus, this time, surely Would win. Although so sick, and clearly so sad, They’d all assumed that I’d Eventually mend! They refused to even discuss My obviously dire condition, (though, in all fairness, Every one of them had their own share of missions, traditions, and decisions). But in addition, they had no plans of triage for me. There was no nurse to be offered, see? Of course, their attitudes spoke volumes to me of What they must have felt of my worth. About this time, my temperature Went way out of control—swiveled like a dime—So High to the sky— Shivering: “Oh, man—so cold!” Really sick now, my unattended sores Began showing signs of rot—what a plot, The mess I’d gotten in! But, in the midst of my demise, While on that ground, out on that hill, (though still On one knee)—“Hey, maybe, that’s the reason They could not see.” But, imagine, the hurt I felt, That un-opened eyes remained so blind To matters of my health. No comfort or soft word to be found, Not from one, nor another— They offered nothing to me—no sound Inspiration or encouragement To live my life— I guess; I was—“The other”. That vast open land they shared, Well it must have put them in a pretty Deep spell—as no longer did They recognize me, so empty was my shell. With no more reason to stay, I quietly decided I’d slip away. Waiting ever patiently in peace, I shut my eyes As I made ready to die. But un-noticed by them, He tended to me. All those pieces he carefully Sat right back In all of those places Where they should have been kept. He claimed me on the spot, RESURRECTED his child on the dot! So, what of the dis-ease from earlier that day? Why, it just as suddenly went away! NOW RECONNECTED, I’VE BEEN REVIVED, I SEE, I’VE SURVIVED! I’m so grateful, too—I must confess: “I LIVE THIS DAY BECAUSE OF YOU” GLORY, HALLAUJAH! I AM ALIVE!

We all have experienced times in our lives when it seems that God is “Nowhere” to be found. About the Author
Ursula Denise Walker and her husband, Richard, of 27 years, reside in Altadena, California where they have raised three children—a teenage daughter; Andrea, and two adult children; Christopher and Nicole. They also are the proud grandparents of two granddaughters; Alexis and Brooklyn. Although a native of Los Angeles, California, Ursula jokingly refers to herself as a “Southern Girl” because of the loving influence of her late father, the Rev. John Black, Sr., whose roots were in Pinola, Mississippi. Ursula has many fond childhood memories of family summer time trips from their California home to the birthplace of her dad where she and her brother enjoyed the annual breaks from their city living experiences to gain a taste of the unpretentious farm lives of their grandmother, uncles, aunts and many cousins. Since she began writing short stories and poems as a child, Ursula is most comfortable with this form of expression—it is her passion. Besides writing, Ursula enjoys interacting with her family and friends, singing in her church choir, cooking, taking long walks, and reading. She is known for her nurturing characteristics and often quotes the adages of her father while sharing his many entertaining farm life analogies as a means to express an encouraging thought. Employed as an office manager for a consulting firm in Los Angeles, Ursula enjoys interacting with her co-workers and she takes pride in offering excellent customer service to the firm’s clients. Although this is her first published work, she has many other projects in mind. Her sincere desire is that this collection of spoken word will help to draw her readers into a deeper knowledge of God's love and grace.
