“I…Um…yes Max come in.” I stammer. Damn it I can’t seem to talk around him. I won’t even address my imaginary friend. He knew from the get go that I didn't have any damn company. Am I that pathetic that the possibility of me having company is totally see through? Get hold of yourself girl, damn. I resigned myself and took a deep breath. “Would you like a glass of wine?” I asked trying to keep my tone steady. When he didn't answer I dared to meet his stare. Okay that was a mistake. It felt as though my heart stopped. Max didn't need to answer my question because he didn't want any wine. He wanted me.
“Alex” My name is like a mantra on his lips. “Yes” I whisper not sure if that simple word is a question or an enticement. The fire in his eyes matches the slow burn in my belly. My need for space set my feet into motion. For every step he takes forward I take one back. He is the predator and I am his prey. There will be no escaping this time. Before I realize it our slow dance has ended. My back is pressed to the wall. Max takes my hands in his and begins to trace small circles on the inside of my palms. The air in my condo seems to be too thick to breathe. I try to remove my hands from his but he will not let me. This is too much. We shouldn't let this happen but there is no stopping it. I bite my lip in an effort to keep from begging. In one swift move he has both of my hands pinned above my head with one of his. Resting his head in the crook of my neck he inhales.
“I’m Sorry Alex.” My mind is blank. I have no idea what he is sorry for. Softly he nips at my neck and I am lost. Working his way to my lips his actions become more frantic. He lands a kiss on my lips... I tense up and clamp my eyes shut...his lips are so soft and gentle yet the demand is evident in the urgency of his kisses. Before I know it his tongue has gained entrance. Somehow this all feels familiar and new at the same time.

April Nichols Baker is a native of Georgetown, Ky. For a majority of her life she has worked in the health care field with people that have traumatic brain injuries (TBI) .She now works in a family medical practice. She has always loved reading books and writing her own stories in her head. She has finally put the pen to the paper and doing what she loves. When she is not writing she enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family. April has been married to the love of her life Neil for 16 years. They have three children.
