About the Author

Michelle Kearney Brown, MD: Medicine-Pediatrics Residency at LSUHSC-Shreveport; I graduated from Centenary College with a BS in biology. In high school I was also the recipient of I initially wrote this book after I was diagnosed with brain cancer. I wrote the book as a present for my young daughter. I wanted her to have something special from me in case something bad happened to me. When I thought about things that were important to me, I remember my Dad telling us stories from his youth when he growing up. These stories were very special to me and I wanted my daughter to have the same experience and memories of me. I grew up in Baton Rouge, La. I graduated from McKinley High School and from there went to Centenary College. After college I worked for a year as a research associate in Biochemistry. I then went to medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. I applied and was accepted to a residency at the same institution for medicine-pediatrics. In October 2012, during my medical residency, I was diagnosed with brain cancer. I underwent brain surgery, radiation therapy, and one year of chemotherapy (which I just finished in 2/2014). I have continued my residency throughout that time with the continued support of my amazing program director, co-residents, friends and family. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my 4 y/o daughter and painting, that is when I am not studying (smile).
