The Gold Mine

Juan was not going to dig away more rock until the shoring was to the end. He was oh so careful when he dug the gold each morning. Silently, reverently, he worked as if the mine was sacred. With prayer and care he worked the mine. His humble attitude held back the force of the curse. That was his part. God, of course was doing His job, plus keeping a careful eye on Juan's character developement. As weeks passed, Juan's thinking about this slowly changed. He had thought his part was vital in order to jump start God into doing His part, and his ongoing performance was vital to God's ongoing blessing. Now he began to wonder if he didn't have that backwards. Maybe it was God's performance that jump started him. If the gold had been there for a long time, God had already done His part. Juan's work was just a way of receiving what God had already provided. He had never seen it that way before. Could it be that God wanted him and his family to enjoy the benefits of the gold so earnestly that He drew Juan to a mine with pure gold in it, and put into his heart the will to dig? Perhaps simply believing that God wanted him to have the gold, and that the gold was actually there, would have made his years of digging a lot less stressful and a lot more fun.
