About the Book

After my sister died, I tried to write poems to ease the pain. As I wrote these poems, I felt whole again. It was a way to ease my mind. Knowing that my sister was saved and gave her life to Christ before she died, it made it easier to cope with because I know she’s in a better place. These poems were written with joy and a whole lot of pain, but I know I will see her once again. Losing loved ones is a lot of grief, but if we stick to our beliefs, we can go through all trials and tribulations. These poems are a tribute to life’s beginning and ending and life’s many celebrations.

About the Author

I was born in Miami, Florida, in the year 1960 to a family of ten children, eight girls and two boys. In 1981, I graduated from Jackson State University with a B.S. in education and worked for Miami-Dade Public Schools and for custom for a brief time. In 1994, I was married to my husband named Lewis Turner Sr., who passed away in 2000. I spent several years grieving for my husband’s death but, eventually, was delivered then moved on with my life. I am a single mother of five kids, two adult daughters and three sons. The Poetic Courier is a book I wrote after the death of my sister in June 2014 to ease the pain of my grieving. I would like to thank my children—Erica, Felicia, Lewis, Isaac, and Vincent—for supporting me in my endeavors of writing this book.
