Last night in the middle of September, I lit up the house with Christmas lights. Last night, I could not contain my emotions and I cried out loud. Mama, Papa loves you, Mama, Papa needs you, I need you, I love you, Mama, I only had you for 10 years, Mama, I’m not yet ready to let you go. Mama, I’m scared that my memories of you will dwindle, Mama, I’m scared that I won’t remembering you. Mama, you were brought back home brittle and broken. Mama, you were brought back home with no recollection of us. Mama, in my heart you did not die on October 1, 1994, Mama, in my heart you were already gone and what was remaining was a former shell of what used to be you.

About the Book
Author Alex Montez had many battles but never gave up the fight of pursuing his love and passions. The author fought battles such as anxiety, depression, insecurities, and life’s challenges in general. However, he did not let it derail his life nor take him hostage. Instead, the author took stock of his inner self, risking everything and stepping out of his comfort zone to find what fulfills his heart and soul. Although it was not always easy, in the end, it was worth the fight and struggle. If the author did not follow his heart, intuitions, and dreams, he would still be living an unfulfilled life.
About the Author
This islander, born and raised in St. Croix U.S Virgin Islands, has been living in the states for over 17 years. Author Alex Montez has not slowed his momentum since his first book, Poems of a Wounded Heart that touched our hearts in 2009. Everyone at least once or twice in their life time had their hearts broken and could relate with the author’s experiences of despair. The author published another book in 2010, Poetry of Love & Hope and not only did he publish books, but he also graduated with his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with the concentration of human services in June of 2015. Furthermore, author Alex Montez is now going to school for his master’s degree in business administration with the concentration of human resource management and published this incredible book, Unconventional that took 3 years in the making because the author wanted to deliver an incredible book for everyone to read, relate and connect with the author through his poems.
