The Eight Plays of Christmas

About the Book

KPFK Radio’s Arts in Review, hosted by Julio Martinez, is Los Angeles’s longest-running radio showcase on live theater and cabaret. In 2004, Julio was asked to create original dramas to air over the Pacifica Radio Network. Julio created new works to be broadcast every holiday season. The following eight works—All is Calm All is Bright, The Nutcracker’s Journey, Keeping Christmas Well, O. Henry’s the Gift of the Magi, To All Good Night, A Christmas Eve Truce, One Horse Open Sleigh, and A Christmas in Tinseltown were originally broadcast over KPFK 90.7 FM, Pacifica Radio for the Greater Los Angeles Area, and distributed nationally over the Pacifica Radio Network. Two of the works, Keeping Christmas Well and A Christmas Eve Truce, were also broadcast over BBC Radio in Great Britain. All eight plays can be produced as staged readings (radio style) or can be theatrically staged and produced as theater plays.

About the Author

Julio Martinez is a weekly columnist the Los Angeles Stage Alliance and Features Editor for the Writers Guild of America Magazine. His articles and critiques have also appeared in Daily Variety, Los Angeles Times Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Backstage West, L.A. Stage Magazine and Westways Magazine, among others. Julio is a published storyteller whose works can be read in The Story Salon Big Book of Stories, A Place Called the Bla Bla Café and Verge of L.A., as well as heard on the Story Salon CD, The Mario Sessions. His stories are currently being podcast on storysalon.com and Iloveagoodstory.com. Julio is the weekly producer/host of Arts in Review on Pacifica Radio’s KPFK 90.7FM. His Radio Plays have been aired nationally over the Pacifica Network and on BBC Radio in Great Britain. He has also performed worldwide as a professional guitarist and music director.
