About the Book

Shhhhh . . . Don’t Tell! is a book about a young girl living in poverty and growing up in a household where there is domestic violence abuse. This book delves into the child’s emotional feelings surrounding her parents’ abusive relationship and how it affects her own life. She feels like she’s the reason behind her parents’ tumultuous relationship and tries her best to make things right. When things don’t get better, she turns to her best friend to keep her secret but worries about what would happen should it get out. Would she get into even more trouble, or could this actually bring about change?

About the Author

Robyn A. Banks-Harris is a direct service provider, providing social services in the Ohio area. She began writing poetry at the age of 6 years old, and has carried this skill with her throughout her life. She provides direct services to children who have experienced domestic violence in the home, poverty, grief and those who are economically challenged. She is very compassionate and truly cares about the children she serves. She is devoted to giving them the encouragement and support they need to speak out against abuse and to speak up for change. Ms. Banks-Harris has a Master’s Degree in social work and is currently working towards obtaining her social work license in the field. She also owns New Direction of Hope, LLC, where she teaches CPR and First Aid classes and under that same umbrella would like to someday own a group home and a family retreat. She hopes that her book would be used to help kids speak up against domestic violence abuse because it can also affect them, even if they don’t experience the immediate affects or first hand. She’s dedicated to promoting change and offers support for those who are vulnerable or have been victimised.
