When The Heart Is A Stranger

“Philip, when may I see my children?” she asked softly as they ate. “In a few weeks. I think you should get comfortable here with me and the way I like my household to run. Perhaps then, I’ll take you to see them. For now, don’t worry, I assure you they are fine and in capable hands, just as you are.” Philip reached over giving her hand a slight squeeze. “Take me to see them? Do you not mean for them to live her with me…and you?” Molly was confused and prayed she was wrong. Philip sighed as he put his fork down. “No, I’ve no intentions of having them live here. Elsie doesn’t even live here. Children of school age fare better in boarding school.” Molly’s mouth gaped as she had no idea this was his plan. “I can’t be married to a man that doesn’t let me raise my own children. That is not who I am. I will work for you, just let me go and give me my children back.” Philip grinned, shaking his head. “Too late for that Molly. You had your chance and adamantly said no, several times. This is the alternative. Do your job and do it well and you will see your children. Just remember, I’m the only one who knows where they are.” It was at that moment her heart stopped beating as she had dishonored it and her children. Subconsciously, she felt her heart begin to build that wall to save itself from her betrayal. Without her children her life had no meaning, no purpose. There was no possible way she could survive without them and she already felt herself dying inside. “I will never lie to you Molly. And I am a man of my word. If you so choose to be disrespectful towards me, I will forbid you from seeing your children. Now, I believe we are done with this conversation. Shall we eat?” Philip raised his brows as she gave him a nod.
