Only Ed knew, and he would go to his grave, sharing nothing of Wesley's past, except it be put in a splendid light. Speech regarding Wes's early years seemed always to fall on Ed, as though Wesley lacked the confidence to own them. Never spoken, yet some quietly wondered about those years. On the surface, it left one feeling the Brighton's lives had been without difficulties; an exception was the death of Evelyn, Ed's first wife.

About the Author

Don Brooks wrote his first novel five years ago when he published Once from the Beginning, his autobiography. Siblings debated it. As the eldest of nine he saw, heard, and knew things of which they had no understanding.

His interest in writing has produced six books about family and its struggles.

Don and his wife, Pat, have been married for 56 years. They have two children, Rebecca and Brent, and six grandchildren. Pat and Don are lifelong residents of Warrick County, Indiana.

Following a 45-year career in insurance, this is Don's segway to retirement.
