The lonely little caterpillar just wiggled around. He climbed up the green leaf and then he slide back down. He ate a little bit now and then but eating alone wasn't much fun. "If only I had a friend," he began to cry as a little round tear drop fell from his eye.

About the Book
As an Early Childhood Educator, I had the privilege of being surrounded by very young children from all walks of life, on a daily basis. The inspiration of my story, The Lonely Little Caterpillar, came from working with these precious children who often times felt the emotions of loneliness and separation anxiety. My hope is that when they read my book they can relate to the caterpillar and realize that feeling lonely is most often short lived and new friends are waiting to be found.
About the Author
Ms. Shirley started writing poetry and short stories when she was just a young girl growing up in Michigan. When she reads or recites her writings, her calming voice and her expressive tone would sooth a fussy child and mesmerize those within ear distance. This short story, The Lonely Little Caterpillar, was written many years ago. It was my families goal to get it published as a legacy of her gift of creative writing and Happy endings are always a must!
