Don’t Raise Victim’s There is a reason that the first recommendation on raising extraordinary kids is to make sure your children don’t have a victim mentality. This in my opinion is one of the most important lessons we as parents MUST teach are children. The reason for the highest most importance for this is that when children have a victim mentality they are being held back from achieving their true potential, success, and happiness. Here’s the biggest fact: kids are only victims when parents allow them to be victims. In order for your child to be a victim, parents have to accept their excuses or their blame. I suggest that parents challenge your child’s thinking by making sure they are not blaming others actions for their own. Remember, we as parents must not allow our children ever to think they are victims and make sure they alone take responsibility for their actions. It’s important for your child to know that failing a spelling test or missing free throws in the basketball game doesn’t make them a victim. Our kids must understand that failure, rejection, and disappointment are part of life.
