About the Book

First let me say Ruth Scott Mackey is the originator of all recipes displayed in this book. I wanted to share with everyone these recipes made with love from memories of me and mom hanging out in the kitchen together. So, one day I decided to start taking photos of my dishes I prepared. As you turn the pages to my delicious dishes’ others will see as I express my love for cooking. In this book you will not see me reference about 1 cup of this or a teaspoon of that because this is the way I was taught to cook. But, once all the ingredients and seasonings marinate together, you will discover enjoyable dishes to share with your family and friends. It is like sharing my mom’s love of cooking and creating wonderful dishes with all of you.

About the Author

Born November 15, 1960, I was the last of five girls. My first memories as a child were watching my mother Ruth Scott Mackey cook. She would wake up daily before the sun would rise and do a little house cleaning before preparing breakfast for me. First thing in the morning I could smell her boil fish and grits, salmon croquettes, cheese eggs and sometimes smothered pork chops. Many times, in the summer especially since us girls was home from school, she would never leave the kitchen. On some weekends her friends usually stop by to visit and asked her what she was cooking. Boy O Boy she would say I am cooking this, or I am cooking that. She really put everything she had in them pots, plus a whole lot of love. The love of cooking is my greatest gift that my mother gave to me. Because I was the baby of the family I would hang out with mom in the kitchen. I began learning many of her recipes at 14 and I have not stopped since. After my mother passed away in 1996, I was only 36 and that is when I knew I wanted to carry on her legacy and that was to share my love of cooking with others. She left me with this love for cooking. She never wanted anyone in her kitchen to steal her recipes. I was the chosen because, I was her baby and I loved to sit on her counter or chair and ask her all kinds of questions. She used to say a pinch of this and a little of that. Although she is not with me physically every time I cook, I often feel her presence spiritually. She is and always will be my Guardian Angel. She most definitely passed her creativity on to me, and I am slowly passing it on to my daughters and granddaughter. Without my mother there would not be cooking with the Legendary Cheryl Scott. Beside God, she is the reason why I cook. When I am not cooking, I love spending time with my two daughters, Shennette and CherGregory, my two lovely grandkids that give me so much joy, King Charles III and Princess London, my fiancé who is always by my side, Melvin, and all of my family. I love traveling, singing, shopping, listening to gospel, planning parties and of course catering. God has been good to me and my family. I am The Legendary Cheryl Scott
